Our environment is important to us and our strategy is more than just words

Ultra and the environment

Our environmental strategy covers all areas of the business from design and suppliers to the way we run our everyday operations.

We were one of the first businesses in HRM to make the change over to Natural Gas and we continually monitor our power consumption to ensure optimal use of equipment.

Day-to-day green initiatives:

Investing in it

In mid-2010 Maritime Systems completed a major project to improve the insulation of our roof on the front third of our facility. The project, which also included roof replacement, required significant investment and was supported by the Eco-Efficiency Retrofit Program out of Ottawa. We have improved the insulation value of the roof from R10 to R20 and expect to see savings of $12,000!

In 2009 we implemented a Low-Voltage lighting control system that allows us to turn lights on independently in the areas needed for overtime or weekend work, or when only certain parts of the site are in use. In the previous lighting system the majority of lights were activated by only a few switches. We have seen significant reduction on energy consumption.
